Learn From My Mistakes
Sorry about the last post....I was angry, frustrated, disgusted, disappointed and I needed to get it off my chest. I don't know if anyone is reading my blog or not, but writing here is a good way for me to vent....whether anyone reads it or not.
It is my own fault that we don't have money saved for college for Katie. I started out with high hopes many years ago, and actually managed to save a lot of money. But then things happened and we needed money on short notice and so we used her account. I tried saving money for her again, but business was slow and bills needed paid and I never got much in there again.
Business is good now and I want to start putting money in her account again. At the very least I can save money now for 3 years and help her pay off her student loans when she graduates. Last week I discovered my debit card number was being used for unauthorized charges, so I have had to cancel that, close the checking account it was attached to and open a new account (that will be a post unto itself). I can view her account online.... and I can make some changes there, but I cannot change the checking account the money is automatically debited from (easy fix)....sigh....so it is just another phone call I have to make (inconvenient fix).
I suppose this is the wake up call I needed. Get my financial stuff in order. Don't touch the money that isn't in your own account. Maybe I need to talk to a money manager or financial consultant. I hate when people tell me what to do.....I like control....that's why I work for myself. The moral of the story is....save any money you can for your child's future. Any amount is better than none, and even little bits add up over time. And then once it is there, don't ever ever touch it. Anyone know any online financial consultants????

Hi Lynn
Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. How true, you do get very isolated being a wahm - lucky for me my kids are still young enough that I have a social life through school and pre-school.
As for your latest blog - again, how true. It is very hard to save and then not to touch it. We also try very hard to save towards our kids college fund, but find it very hard at times.
We have just had a mini snow storm here - what fun! Hope you have a great Easter.
All the best from snowy, wintery UK.
Nicole
When I was younger, I called my mom Mum. I just about freaked when I saw a comment from Mum. My mom is reading my blog????? Yikes. So relieved it was someone else : ) Not that my mom couldn't read my blog, but I guess I would like to know about it ahead of time.
We are expecting 3-6 inches of snow here tomorrow. While I love winter, it sure has been long....verging on depressingly long.
I volunteer at school as much as I can. What I found is that there are just a few of us available to do things, because everyone else works outside the home and can't take off. At least I get some interaction....better than talking to the dog all day : )
